How is Private Mileage approval determined❓BRT6 Medical Transportation Coordinators follow the NIHB Policy - which outlines when a client may choose to travel by private mileage. Clients may travel by private vehicle for any medical appointment, however they may not be reimbursed for mileage if a community medical van or taxi was traveling on the same date and there was space available in the vehicle. When coordinated medical transportation is available, clients who choose to use another mode of transportation may be responsible for the full cost. NIHB will consider exceptions when provided with medical justification indicating why the client had to travel separately.

Note: Clients undergoing dialysis or cancer treatment, or clients traveling for the purpose of childbirth, are elgible to travel by private mileage when a medical van or taxi has room.
