Qualifications / Experience

  • Preferred University Degree in Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in community development, advocacy, or outreach, with experience in group programming and delivering presentations
  • A strong understanding of land-based education and healing
  • Ability to speak Cree is considered an asset
  • Previous working experience with First Nations people and demonstrate an understanding of the health and social issues encountered by First Nations people and a willingness to learn about and accept First Nations cultures
  • Knowledge of the organization (strategic priorities, values, goals, services, and programs), health care and First Nations culture
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) Publisher, and technological platforms such as Microsoft Teams, WebEx etc. with a general aptitude for expanding the use of software applications to enhance efficiencies
  • Abilities and behaviours associated with the core competencies with an emphasis upon communication, planning and organizing, interpersonal relationships, client focus, community development, creativity/innovation, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • A clear understanding of trauma and health issues facing BRT6HC communities as well as cultural strengths
  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive information and documents, exercising confidentiality, discretion, good judgement, tact, courtesy, and diplomacy at all times
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to balance the changing needs of the organization
  • Basic crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to effectively facilitate groups and possess strong public speaking skills
  • A willingness to connect with community members and listen to their needs for support
  • Must possess a successful criminal record check with the vulnerable sector
