Healthy Living Community Garden Coordinator
Position Summary: In keeping with the philosophy of Battlefords Family Health Centre, the Community Garden Coordinator will play an integral role in increasing the practice of healthy eating and active living behaviours of participants through the 3 community garden sites. Competitive Six Step Salary Range $28.93 to $34.35 per hour.
Responsibilities:
•To engage and support community members who are participating in the community garden program.
•To maintain upkeep of the garden, equipment, infrastructure, and common areas.
•To plan, organize, and deliver garden events with purchased groceries and prepare a healthy meal and activity for approx. 30 – 50 people.
•To work with diverse cultural groups of people and community agencies.
•To work with community garden participants to incorporate gardening and produce into healthy eating and physical activities.
•To work with volunteers and community partners.
•To supervise and mentor 3-5 summer youth garden staff.
•To assist with the recruiting, on boarding and training of youth staff.
•To prepare sites in the spring and dismantle sites in the fall.
•To assist with weekly, monthly and end of project reports, time sheets, and purchase orders.
•To follow financial funding agreements and work within project budget.
•To develop online resources and videos to promote the project.
The successful candidate must:
•Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Good computer skills.
•Be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
•Be a self-starter and have ability to work independently and in a team setting.
•Have a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle.
•Have access to a cell phone.
•Be able to repair / problem solve to fix and repair hand tools and small garden equipment.
•Be able to work outdoors in varied weather.
•Possess knowledge of gardening and food preparation.
•Possess safe food handling, WHIMIS and First Aide.
•Working knowledge and repairs of small equipment and gardening tools.
•Able to lift or move 25 to 50 pounds.
