Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Establish a trusting and supportive relationship with pre-natal and postnatal clients.
  • Encourage and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Provide cultural support with access to Elders, Parent Mentor, Traditional Parenting, and ceremonies.
  • The MCH worker will implement prevention programs through mentorship with pre/post-natal clients for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
  • Assist in linking pre/post-natal women to supports and services available to them locally, regionally, and provincially.
  • Be knowledgeable about trauma informed nutrition.
  • Assist in increasing immunization rates by providing information, resources, invitations, and school-aged immunization consents.
  • Provide cooking classes for prenatal and breastfeeding Moms and their partners every 2 weeks.
  • Participate in the wrap around process with clients and their families.
  • Providing opportunities for new mom's and their families re: Birth Registration, birth certificates.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work assignments. Performs other assigned MCHW programs duties as deemed appropriated in consultation with the Community Based Health Director.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Home Visiting Course within a 3-year period from date of hire or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, and Teams
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of traditional First Nation values, belief and healing approaches and a willingness to learn about and accept First Nations culture.
  • Demonstrates agency values in the work they do daily with BRT6HC First Nations communities, clients, and co-workers.
  • High degree of confidentiality is essential.
  • A successful criminal record check and a valid driver's license
